Compromise may suit park owners, residents

A compromise has been struck in San Diego County's heated debate over mobil home rent control.

An ordinance adopted last week by the Board of Supervisors could end up saving legal costs and satisfying a majority of mobile home park owners, residents and county officials.

Put forth by Supervisor Pam Slater, the compromise ordinance also may soothe the animosity inherent in a system that has a mobile home park resident owning his or her home, but renting the land it sits on, say industry insiders.

The details of the ordinance are still being worked out and officials expect to have it ready in 90 days.
