If you don't know the difference between an asphalt and a coal tar pitch built-up roof, you're probably not alone.
Among their similarities -- and there are many -- both BUR types have been overshadowed in recent years by the emergence of single-ply systems. As a result, those who entered the construction industry in the 1980s may have never specified an asphalt or coal tar system, let alone evaluated their differences.
