SEOUL, May 4 Asia Pulse - South Korea said Thursday it will spend 34.25 billion won (US$36.54 million) on projects to develop natural resources near the country's Dokdo islets in the East Sea in a bid to reinforce its control over the territory.

"Properly maintaining the Dokdo islets is significant in manifesting the nation's actual control of them," Vice Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Kang Mu-hyun told a press briefing.

From this year through 2010, the government will carry out the five-year-plan that calls for preservation and research on the ecological system of the islets and its surrounding waters, Kang said.
