May 3--They were determined to show their presence here means something, that they aren't invisible and their numbers make a huge political point.
But did the Latinos who boycotted schools, workplaces and businesses on Monday change people's attitudes about immigrants and their importance to the country? That answer is yet to be decided.
While many stores and restaurants shut their doors and thousands of employees stayed away from work to show support for immigrants, the region's economic engine continued to hum despite the protests, experts said.
