May 5--LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- By 8 a.m., the path in front of Barn 42 at Churchill Downs was more crowded than Market Street sidewalks at lunchtime.
Practically every media type and corporate tourist wound up here. Tour groups stopped in front of the barn, a regular place to put Kentucky Derby big-timers. Smarty Jones was housed in Barn 42 two years ago. This time, Derby favorites Brother Derek and Barbaro both have stalls by the back grazing area. Trainer Michael Trombetta, a Baltimore guy at his first Derby, has his own hot Derby contender, Sweetnorthernsaint, stalled in the front of the barn, on the public side. The horse ...
