When Jim Horan hired Jodi Fyfe as the director of business development for Blue Plate, he expected her to shake up the company.
What he didn't expect was to marry her.
"We had an identity crisis as a business,'' says Mr. Horan, 56, founder and CEO of Blue Plate, the largest catering and event-planning firm in Chicago. "We needed to develop distinct identities for our four divisions. I thought it would take bringing in someone from the corporate world to get us to the next level.''
