THE Philippines has a longer coastline than the USA and this coastline is teeming with rich marine resources. These plant and marine resources are found in 2,200,000 square kilometers of marine water flanked by the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. These bounties include fish, shellfish, corals, seagrasses, and seaweeds.
Seaweeds or macro-algae are the main "flora" population. These are plants without true leaves, true stem, and roots. They come in various colors, but are predominantly green (cholorophyta), brown (phaeophyta), and red (rhodophta) as determined by the dominant pigment secreted in the plant body.
