The first representative body for podcasters, the UK Podcasters' Association, opened to members this week.
The UKPA will be run with the aim of protecting podcasters' rights and promoting their interests.
In the coming months it will be making a case for fair and workable use of licensed material, to educate collection agencies about concepts such as Creative Commons and to resist licence encroachment into syndicated distribution of speech.
The UKPA was set up by podcast and blogging company Funk MDs Dean Whitbread and Mark Crook, and media solicitor Paul Nicholls.
