Timber processor Weyerhaeuser Co. is hoping buyers will come out of the woodwork for its fine paper business. As part of its first quarter earnings announcement on April 26, the $17 billion market cap company publicized it is seeking strategic alternatives for the fine paper business.

Shares of the Tacoma, Wash.-based company, which traded at $69.59 as of press time, were on a downward run as a result of predictions the company would miss first quarter earnings targets but received a brief $2 bump to $74.55 on the day of the announcement.

For 2005, Weyerhaeuser generated $22.6 billion in net sales, with $4.3 billion, or 19%, coming from the fine paper ...
