Raytheon's William Swanson endured a furor that no chief executive ever wants to go through - charges of plagiarism, attacks on his integrity and ultimately a public rebuke last week from his own board.

The two-week firestorm has died down, at least for now, and the 57-year-old Swanson will undoubtedly strive to regain the trust of his board, shareholders, customers and 80,000 employees at the Waltham-based defense contractor, starting this week.
