Central New York is a more difficult market for black-owned businesses than comparable Upstate communities, according to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Rochester area has three times as many black-owned firms per capita as the Syracuse area, according to the report. The statistics indicate that the Buffalo area and Albany region also are more hospitable to black entrepreneurs.
Black entrepreneurs also typically have a harder time raising money to start businesses than their white counterparts.
