OTTAWA -- The man expected to be Canada's next energy minister wants to increase exports of natural gas to the United States instead of cutting back sales as some in his Liberal Party want.

David Kilgour told The Oil Daily in an interview that the goal of a Liberal government would be to boost gas exports to the United States as a way of ensuring that the recovery of the Canadian oil and gas industry continues.

"To do anything else would cripple the natural gas industry," said Kilgour, author of the Liberal Party's energy platform.
