The Swiss artist Thomas Dubs is best known in Europe for his site-specific, interactive, kinetic sculptures. In a wide-ranging career, Dubs has worked in a variety of materials with enormous openness to their artistic and cultural possibilities. One direction he pursued in the 1970s has resurfaced as the basis of his exhibition "The Instrumentarium of Thomas Dubs." The "Instrumentarium" is a sizable orchestra of hand-carved and assembled wooden elements. Equally engaging as sculptures and as musical instruments, they are both visually compelling and capable of being played.
