May 11--NEW YORK -- I want to... well... um... I mean... it's... you know. Vacuous stuff, eh? It's the sort of sentence you find running through Conor McPherson's empty, rambling Shining City, which opened Tuesday night on Broadway, in its American premiere. It was originally presented two years ago by the Royal Court Theatre in London and by the Gate Theatre in Dublin. You might call it the sleeper of the year. Then you would nod off.
