May 11--Monterey Bay area school leaders took a majority of administrative awards at the annual banquet of the Association of California School Administrators. Nine of the 16 awards went to school officials in Salinas and North Monterey County. The region includes the school districts in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Salinas principals Rosie Alvarez of Boronda Meadows School, Thomas Dietrich of Gavilan View Middle School and Steve Oliver at La Paz Middle School each received Principal of the Year awards. Dietrich and Oliver were honored as middle-grade principals and Alvarez for elementary schools.
