May 11--A shaking of heads by residents and board members alike showed the frustration and disbelief about increased gang activity in New Bern reported at Tuesday night's Board of Aldermen meeting.
Police Chief Frank Palombo acknowledged a gang presence that has increased in the last few months.
Five assaults -- all misdemeanors -- were reported during the recent Easter break, said Chris Stansbury, police spokesman.
Alderman Barbara Lee said it goes deeper than that.
"Kids are terrorizing communities right now," said Lee, adding she has received complaints from residents about problems in the schools ...
