May 11--The state secretary of public safety persuaded the Corrections Department to oppose a home for paroled inmates that had planned to move into his neighborhood. The Corrections Department had taken a neutral position on the controversial halfway house proposed in Santa Fe's Bellamah neighborhood. But then it changed course after conversations between Corrections Secretary Joe Williams and Public Safety Secretary John Denko. "We're relying on the guidance we've received from DPS.
