So much of what is classified "acoustic rock" seems to be primarily concerned with just sounding pleasant and tasteful. Nothing inherently wrong with that, although there are a lot of acoustic rock bands out there, and not a lot of range within the boundaries of "pleasant and tasteful."
That's what makes more adventurous bands like Madison's Benefits of Being Paranoid all the more arresting. While most of the acoustic/electric hybrid music on the band's second studio album "Midnightgrass" fits under the "P and T" label, it also stretches and expands on its bedrock sound in a way that's satisfying and sometimes unexpected.
