The Midwest Poultry Federation Convention was held March 21-23 in St. Paul, Minn. Features of the program were a nutrition symposium, a series of workshops and several seminars on various aspects of poultry production and nutrition. K. Bregendahl and S. Roberts of Iowa State University reported on nutritional strategies to reduce ammonia emissions from laying hens. A large part of the environmental issues that have arisen from intensive poultry production revolve around the excretion and volatilization of nitrogen and the emission of volatile organic compounds of dietary origin.
