The conventional wisdom in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District is that child safety advocate Patty Wetterling has great name recognition and a reservoir of public affection, but that she might be too liberal for the conservative-leaning district. Her opponent in Saturday's DFL endorsing convention, former Blaine Mayor Elwyn Tinklenberg, has argued that as a "pro-life" former minister, he can better compete with Republicans for the votes of social conservatives.
But the conventional wisdom doesn't match up very well with the candidates' actual positions on the hot button issues.
