IRVINE, Calif. -- Today officially marks the beginning of the three-year process to remove the runways at the former El Toro Marine Base.
During a small yet significant ceremony, a segment of the former base's southern runway was removed, crushed and then recycled for re-use at a later date within the future Heritage Fields Master Plan, the 2,289-acre development component to the Orange County Great Park.
On hand to witness the removal of the runway were members of the Irvine City Council, the Orange County Great Park Corporation's Board of Directors, and representatives of Heritage Fields El Toro, LLC, the partnership between Lennar, LNR and its ...
