May 14--The Rev. Tommy Davidson chooses his words carefully when he talks about gays and lesbians. Davidson, who has been pastor at Riverside Baptist Church in Newport News for 20 years, calls homosexuality "a distortion of God's plan for men and women" and believes there will be repercussions for any society that openly accepts it. But he talks of the need for Christians to treat gays and lesbians with love.
Citing the verse in Ephesians in which Paul says to "speak the truth in love," Davidson says Christians should avoid fire-and-brimstone rhetoric in discussions of homosexuality. "Christians need to give people the truth ...
