SORSOGON CITY -- Sorsogon Governor Ramon Lee has urged the members of a probe panel investigating the alleged mercury poisoning caused by a spill from mining operations on isolated Rapu Rapu Island to be rational and abide by the scientific findings about the so-called "tragedy."
The panel, led by Bishop Arturo Bastes, has been given several days to wrap up their study, which would determine if the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) would allow the lifting of the cease-and-desist order (CDO) slapped on Lafayette Mining, an Australian company that is mining copper, gold and other minerals in Rapu Rapu.
