Point-and-shoot cameras are all about, well, pointing and shooting--taking photos easily and conveniently. A good point-and-shoot makes photography as painless as possible--the camera deals with the business of deciding what settings to use without distracting you from the fun of shooting. While their more advanced cousins offer features that serious photographers want (such as manual controls), the point-and-shoot models that we tested for this review sacrifice many of these attributes in favor of simplicity.
