CHICAGO _ At this ugly intersection, 37 games into what would be the Cubs' third consecutive disappointing season, firings appear almost inevitable, if not imminent.
General manager Jim Hendry is safe, thanks to the contract extension he received only last month, but you've got to wonder about manager Dusty Baker and Andy MacPhail, the club president who has found it tougher to win with big resources at Wrigley Field than it once was on a shoestring budget in Minnesota.
