May 16--TOKYO -- Major used-book chain operator Bookoff Corp. said Tuesday it has picked Managing Director Mayumi Hashimoto as its next president, succeeding Takashi Sakamoto who will become chairman.
The appointment, to be formalized June 24, will mark a successful climbing of the corporate ladder for 57-year-old Hashimoto who joined the company in 1990 at its first shop in Kanagawa Prefecture as a part-time employee.
She became a regular employee the following year, became the head of Bookoff's second shop later on, and then became an executive in 1994.
