No one craves and courts the company of broadcast TV powerbrokers more than Bill Carter.
His latest power trip, ``Desperate Networks,'' takes readers deep behind the scenes of what became a highly eventful 2004-05 television season.
The author of 1994's acclaimed ``The Late Shift'' again leaves cable completely out of the picture, although he did take a check from HBO for writing the screenplay for that book.
