May 17--In an effort to prevent further spread of mumps in the Milwaukee Public Schools system, health officials will provide vaccinations at nine schools that have a high number of students who aren't properly immunized.
In addition, officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plan to review their advice for mumps shots after the Midwest outbreak. Possible changes could include new vaccine requirements for health care providers in the mumps-stricken areas, said Curtis Allen, spokesman for the centers' National Immunization Program. The vaccine advisory committee has a meeting set for today.
