May 17--A decade ago, Ohio State University archives turned up a pocket journal carried by Richard E. Byrd on his 1926 flight to the North Pole. Notations and a partially erased sextant reading seemed to support some experts who had long suspected that Byrd had missed the mark. In Hudson, news of this revelation caused more than a few folks to smile. That's because the second expedition to fly over the pole -- just three days after Byrd's claim -- carried former Hudson resident Lincoln Ellsworth.
