Chesapeake Energy has launched a six-well drilling program to test a large acreage position it holds in the Fayetteville Shale gas play in Arkansas.
The Oklahoma City-based independent revealed on Tuesday that it had recently increased its leasehold position in the play to 600,000 acres from a previously disclosed 200,000 acres.
Chief Executive Aubrey McClendon, speaking during a conference call on third-quarter earnings, said Chesapeake intends to keep most of the details to itself for the time being. However, he did say that results from the first of the six vertical wells were "inconclusive" and that all six wells should be drilled by the end of January.…
