After Congress took some small steps to advance alternatives to gasoline earlier this year, a Senate panel on Tuesday began weighing more ways to increase fuel options and wean the US from a dependence on oil that makes it vulnerable to periodic supply disruptions and price shocks. After hearing testimony from experts on ways to commercialize both existing and new fuels and technologies, members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee overwhelmingly agreed that Congress needs to steer policy to increase fuel choices for the American public.
