ANDREA DWORKIN DIED APRIL 9, 2005, at 58, at home with her husband, John Stoltenberg. Dworkin died in her sleep, after reportedly suffering from several chronic illnesses over the last few years.
Brilliant and beleaguered, Dworkin was the embodiment of second-wave feminism. Without her, we would not have had the strident, polemic, ranting, in-your-face feminism that so radically altered the American political landscape. Dworkin was the voice and face of radical feminism for three decades. Yet for much of that time she was vilified for every idea she had.
