May 18--The Santa Fe school board voted Wednesday to increase school lunch prices to raise minimum pay for cafeteria workers and other nonteaching employees. The vote came as the board approved an $82 million budget for the 2007-08 school year, capping an effort to reconcile a roughly $5 million deficit. The spending plan, which requires state approval, cuts about 36 regular teaching positions, 11 special-education positions and four ancillary positions such as nurses and counselors. "This has been a very difficult process," Superintendent Leslie Carpenter said. "We've had to figure out how to do our job with less money."
