Folks around Genoa are talking about their rare nomadic visitor - a snowy owl who's apparently catching his wind before winging home to the Arctic tundra.
The bird was perched atop a utility pole near a dairy farm on Route 34 Thursday morning, swiveling its head from time to time. It was roosting across the street from Community Propane, where he's been drawing flocks of curious onlookers the past 11 days.
"It's neat and it's a nice distraction. He seems very happy and he's not frightened," said Kathryn Vreeland, a co-owner of the southern Cayuga County propane business.
