GOSSIPING wins us friends and boosts our self-confidence - and the cattier it is, the better, according to a study.

After examining the relationships and friendships of hundreds of college students, U.S. researchers said: 'We do not deny that gossip has its drawbacks or that badmouthing others can hurt feelings, create conflicts and stir up a cauldron of trouble.
