May 22--Even before gas hit $3 a gallon, most people I know were looking for ways to save. Most of us always are -- it's a necessity of life. But too often, we focus only on the big stuff. True, you can save thousands of dollars on a car or mortgage by dodging pitfalls. And I often urge consumers to speak up on big issues that affect them, by pressing for smarter regulation and more competition. Don't think it matters? Look at Southwest Airlines' impact on Philadelphia airfares.
