IT MAY be the jewel in the crown of the Formula One calendar, but for world champion Fernando Alonso, next Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix is a race he has to endure if he wants to pick up a second successive crown.

'Monaco is not like normal motorsport,' said the 24-year-old Spaniard. 'It is a show for the people and we are there to enjoy that and to make it spectacular.

'The truth, though, is that it's hard to get the maximum from the car, the tyres and the engine. You have to work with qualifying in mind. If you are in the front row, then you have a 100 per cent chance to finish on the podium.
