May 23--SPRINGFIELD -- When Chief Warrant Officer Mark Hebenstreit was growing up, he heard stories from his father, who served in Morocco with the Air Force during the 1950s. The tales he heard of Richard Hebenstreit's friendships, travels and training in the service helped inspire him to join the Illinois National Guard while he was a senior at Eisenhower High School. Mark Hebenstreit also was motivated by the financial benefits and patriotism. Hebenstreit, 36, has been in the Illinois National Guard since.
