May 25--As a follow-up treatment to breast cancer, five days of radiation for a small area of the breast is better than five weeks or more treating all of it, right? A local surgeon and a radiation oncologist say maybe -- under narrow, conservative criteria they have adopted for the five-day procedure. MammoSite brand Radiation Therapy System has been used on only two patients at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center since being offered in early April. Drs. Alan Mullins and Tristan Briones are cautiously optimistic about the procedure that uses a catheter to irradiate the cavity left by removal of a tumor.
