Shorter hospital rehabilitation programs for cardiac and joint-replacement patients seem to be translating into increased sales for NuStep Inc.
The Ann Arbor-based company makes a recumbent cross-training exercise machine called the TRS 4000. The machine's reclined seating position is aimed at reducing stress on joints and allowing patients to keep their balance while receiving a workout.
"It's like sit-down walking that utilizes all the major muscles in the body,'' said Steve Sarns, vice president of sales and marketing.
