May 25--OCALA, Fla. -- Hida Basirico says she cannot stomach to watch another horse race.
After seeing Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro shatter his leg in three places on TV during the Preakness Stakes Saturday, the 76-year-old Ocala woman said she would turn the channel rather than watch another race.
"To me that's animal abuse. It's despicable," Basirico said after shopping with her husband, Nick, at Paddock Mall on Tuesday. "These horses are too big for such thin legs. I feel sorry for the animal."
