May 25--Bangkok Insurance (BKI) remains upbeat about its profitability this year due to favourable investment returns from a hike in deposit rates.

"Given the prospect of bank deposit rates and coupon rates, we still believe that returns on investments will be much higher than last year," said Chai Sophonpanich, BKI chairman and president.

BKI reported net investment income of 380.49 million baht in 2005, a rise from 323.60 million in 2004. But net profit fell to 594.89 million baht last year compared with 667.45 million baht in 2004.
