May 26--Some artists win over their audiences slowly and unobtrusively. Before you know it, a performer who had seemed a bit tame or subdued becomes more intriguing. Certainly this was the case with singer-pianist Dena DeRose, who's making her Chicago debut this week at the Jazz Showcase. What started as an odd and muted set gradually became more persuasive.
