SAN FRANCISCO _ Barry Bonds was the bittersweet center of the universe again, for one more day, for one more swing, for his delighted fans, and for the last time.
That's why No. 715 on Sunday felt like a final, warm encore more than a moment of sudden adrenaline, right? That's why it felt a little gauzy and remote, even as AT&T Park shook in the bottom of the fourth.
Bonds slammed Byung-Hyun Kim's pitch, for five seconds we all stared into the sky as the ball traced its way 445 feet from home plate into history, and then the realization hit:
