Nigeria's two main oil workers unions in the Niger Delta--Pengassan and Nupeng--met Thursday to review the security situation in the Niger Delta, following earlier threats to halt operations in the region. The unions threatened last week to withdraw members working for various oil and gas companies in the Delta unless they could be protected from attacks by Ijaw militants against oil workers and facilities.
An official from the white-collar Pengassan union told Oil Daily that the heads of the two unions were holding talks in Abuja on Thursday. "We are still monitoring the situation before making a final decision," the spokesman said.
