Fighting for his (old) life: Injured soldier determined to recover.

May 29--SKEDEE -- When a 55-gallon drum of explosives detonated Jan. 28 in Iraq, Army Cpl. Shane Nuttle was stripped of nearly everything but his rank. The roadside blast lacerated his spleen, shattered his jaw and rattled his skull, sending him into a four-week coma.

"When we first saw him, the first day we got in there, we just didn't think he was going to make it," Nuttle's mother, Jessie Nuttle, said of the family's visit to see the injured soldier in Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
