Solent Coastguard were called today at just after midday when more than 15 sailing dinghies capsized in strong gales.

About 30 - 40 boats from the Hayling Island Sailing Club were racing in Chichester Harbour, off Hayling Island, Hampshire, when some were pushed over by the strength of the seas and winds.

Coastguards were alerted to problems with the race after the wind suddenly picked up to between forces five and six.
