Cakes shipped from Sara Lee now arrive at Baskin-Robbins in larger, acrylic-coated corrugated RSCs that eliminate labor steps, cut costs and landfill waste.

Nary a crumb is left when Baskin-Robbins' ice cream cakes are served. But a lot of corrugated waste was generated by the containers used by Sara Lee to ship the cakes it baked at its New Hampton, Iowa bakery to Baskin-Robbins' Southbury, Conn. operation.

After combining the 9-in. round and 12x8-in. rectangular sheet cakes with ice cream, the Southbury plant distributes them to Baskin-Robbins franchised shops around the country to be decorated and sold. The plant produces some 5,000 ice cream cakes daily.
