May 31--Rochester Public Utilities has detected leaks "ranging from significant to minor" along a newly built underground steam line serving Mayo Clinic, officials say. At temperatures in the range of 750 degrees, even a small leak in a high-pressure steam line can be hot to handle. The steam can spew out at 625 pounds per square inch of pressure. RPU has found steam escaping at junction points in the line between its Silver Lake generating station and Mayo Clinic's private utility plant, both on the city's near north side.
