Flash and glitter were words often used to describe office towers constructed during the unrestrained 1980s. But if the new BP Exploration Headquarters (BP Plaza) in Houston is any indicator, moderation and simplicity have begun to prevail, with practicality superseding glitz. "The flash and dash of the 1980s are gone. So is the 'star system' where the architect in a cape flies in saying, "It's my way or the highway," said Rick Keating, a partner with BP Plaza's architect Keating Mann Jernigan & Rottet (KMJR).
